Office de tourisme du Pays d'Angoulême

The first port of call for any visitor, the Office de tourisme du Pays d'Angoulême is located at the heart of the historic plateau, steps from Les Halles. Maps, brochures, bookings, guided tours and personalised advice: this is where your stay truly begins.

Location & contact details

The office is located at place des Halles, on the central plateau of Angoulême, less than five minutes on foot from Saint-Pierre cathedral, the town hall and the covered market. This is the nerve centre of the upper town — it is easy to find by following the green tourist signage from place du Minage or rue de Périgueux.

Durable contact details: telephone +33 5 45 95 16 84; website angouleme-tourisme.com. The team also responds to email enquiries; contact forms are available on the website. For groups or school visits, it is advisable to contact the office several weeks in advance to book guided-tour slots.

Opening hours

The office is open Monday to Saturday, generally from 9:30 to 18:00, with a shorter midday closure out of season. In summer (July–August), hours are extended and the office also opens on Sunday mornings. During the Comics Festival period (late January), special extended sessions are organised to handle the influx of visitors. Check the exact hours on angouleme-tourisme.com before your visit, as they may vary on public holidays and during events.

Services on offer

The tourist office is much more than a leaflet counter. Its multilingual team (French, English, Spanish) offers a full range of support for individual visitors and groups alike.

Guided tours

Guided walking tours are offered year-round, in French and in English on request. Recurring themes include: the medieval upper town (cathedral, ramparts, town hall), the comics circuit (painted walls, BD venues), and seasonal themed walks (Romanesque architecture, industrial heritage). Rates are around €6–10 per adult for a standard group tour.

Booking & ticketing

The team can help with booking local accommodation (hotels, B&Bs), purchasing tickets for the city's cultural events and shows, and organising visits for formed groups. During the Comics Festival period — which, following the 2026 cancellation, is expected to resume in 2027 — the booking service is under heavy pressure; plan well ahead.

The painted-walls circuit: a flagship service

One of the most-requested resources at the office is the painted-walls circuit leaflet — a self-guided map that locates and describes some fifteen large-scale comics murals scattered through the streets of Angoulême. These works, reproducing pages by masters of the ninth art, transform a stroll through the city into a visit to an open-air gallery. The brochure includes a short note on each work: title, artist and year of completion.

To go further in exploring the city's comics universe, the office will direct visitors to the Cité de la BD, the specialist bookshops in the upper town, and information on the forthcoming International Festival, whose revival is planned for 2027 following the cancellation of the 2026 edition.

Accessibility & facilities

The office is on a single level, step-free, and has toilets accessible to visitors with reduced mobility. Large-print documentation is available on request. For more information on accessibility across the city — transport, tourist sites, accommodation — see our accessibility guide or ask the office team directly; they can direct you to adapted service providers.

Before you go: online resources

The website angouleme-tourisme.com is the official digital resource for the Pays d'Angoulême. It features: an itinerary guide and visit suggestions, a continuously updated events calendar, a selection of restaurants and accommodation with online availability, and downloadable PDF maps. It is advisable to consult this site before any visit to check tourist site opening hours and any works underway in the upper town. The site also provides a full English-language version.

Getting around from the office: the TACO bus network connects the upper town, the station, Champ de Mars and the main districts. Self-service bikes are available nearby. For a full transport overview, our getting around page has all the details.
