Privacy policy

This page explains what data is processed when you visit angouleme.org, for what purposes, with which partners, and how to exercise your rights. Last updated: 24 October 2026.

1. Who we are

angouleme.org is an independent, bilingual guide to the city of Angoulême. It is not affiliated with the Mairie d'Angoulême, the tourist office or the Comics Festival. The site's publisher is the data controller for the processing described below. For any question about your data, write to us via the contact page.

2. Data collected and purposes

Audience measurement (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and to improve the guide. It collects pages viewed, visit duration, device and browser type, language, approximate location (city, country) and referring site. Google Analytics 4 does not store your full IP address. This data is statistical: we do not try to identify you.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

The site is funded by advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and identifiers to show ads, cap how often you see them, measure their performance and fight fraud. With your consent, ads may be personalised based on your visits to this and other websites. Without consent, only non-personalised ads (based on the page content and your approximate location) are shown.

Learn more: how Google uses data from partner sites and advertising at Google. You can turn off Google ad personalisation in My Ad Center, or for many other advertisers at youronlinechoices.com.

Contact form

If you write to us, we receive your name, email address and message. They are used only to reply to you and are never sold or used for advertising.

Language preference

When you choose FR or EN, the choice is saved in your browser's local storage (key ang_lang). It is never sent to a server.

Third-party technical services

To display the site, your browser connects to third-party services that technically receive your IP address: Google Fonts (typefaces), unpkg.com (Leaflet map library) and OpenStreetMap (map tiles). Our host may also keep technical logs (IP address, date, page requested) for security purposes.

4. Legal bases

  • Consent: audience measurement and advertising cookies (Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act, Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).
  • Legitimate interest: site security, technical logs, replying to messages received (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

5. Recipients and transfers outside the EU

Audience and advertising data are processed by Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC and, for advertising, by the ad partners listed in the consent banner. Some data may be transferred to the United States; Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and relies on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. We do not sell any personal data.

6. Retention periods

  • Google Analytics data: 14 months maximum.
  • Cookies and consent choices: 13 months maximum.
  • Messages received through the form: while we handle your request, then 12 months maximum.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR and the French Data Protection Act, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object to and port your data, to withdraw your consent at any time, and to set instructions for your data after your death. To exercise them, write to us via the contact page; we reply within one month.

If you believe your rights have not been respected, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL or your local data protection authority.

8. External links and children

The guide links to third-party sites (tourist office, museums, event organisers) whose practices we do not control: please read their own policies. The site is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect data about them.

9. Changes

This policy may change, for example when a new partner is added. The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page.
